CAR 2.0 AND PRA OPTIMIZED IN THE STATE OF PARÁ

The project aims to establish a national consensus for the elaboration of a Technological Action Plan (TAP), considering priority sectors and key technologies for meeting the mitigation goals. As a result, it aims to prepare an official document from Brazil to be submitted to the UNFCCC, which will provide subsidies for prioritizing investments in climate technologies. In the first phase of the project, priority technologies were defined for Brazil to reach its emission targets for mitigating greenhouse gas emissions in the Agriculture, Forestry and other Land Uses (AFOLU) sector. The second phase involved the preparation of Technological Action Plans (TAP) for each prioritized technology with a view to its implementation by 2030.

METHODOLOGY

After surveying the state of the art of the technologies available for mitigation in the AFOLU sector, multi-criteria analyzes and meetings with stakeholders were carried out to prioritize and elaborate the TAPs. After selecting the priority technologies, an extensive analysis of the value chains and barriers to implementation was carried out. Finally, actions and activities were proposed to overcome barriers considering risk analysis, contingency measures and implementation cost estimates.

RESULTS

In the first phase of the project, five priority technologies were selected, namely: Precision agriculture, Satellite monitoring, Genetic improvement in beef cattle, Forestry and genetic improvement of native species and Forestry with mixed plantations for restoration. For each one, a Technological Action Plan was prepared that translates into effective actions and activities for its development and/or dissemination.
