Implementation of the SeloVerde Platform in Minas Gerais for Public Traceability and Transparency of Agricultural Supply Chains

Transparency and Traceability System for Livestock Supply Chains in Minas Gerais

Covering approximately 7% of Brazil’s territory, Minas Gerais stands out as the country’s third-largest economy and the second-largest in agricultural production value. However, of the nearly one million rural environmental registrations (CAR) in the state, less than 1% had been analyzed by 2023.

In response to this scenario, the SeloVerde MG project aims to equip the State of Minas Gerais with free, transparent tools to assess the socio-environmental compliance of all private rural properties within the state’s key supply chains: soy, coffee, cattle, and planted forests. In addition to verifying environmental compliance with the Brazilian Forest Code, these supply chains are also assessed for adherence to European and British regulations for deforestation-free supply chains (EUDR and Environmental Act 17/21).

METHODOLOGY

The analysis of CAR “big data” for the state of Minas Gerais is conducted using geoprocessing and database modeling tools such as PostgreSQL/PostGIS and Dinamica EGO. All of these are open-source technologies that leverage land use data, deforestation, enforcement actions, and other geospatial datasets to generate territorial intelligence.

The hybrid computational infrastructure of these platforms enables data and applications to be shared between public and private clouds in a scalable and secure manner.

RESULTS

Shortly.
