Study of the impact of deforestation on climate and agricultural production.

Support for the development of public policies for the Brazilian agricultural sector and the promotion of the recovery of degraded and low-productivity areas.

Following the first phase of the project—which identified impacts of up to 20% on the net revenues from soy-maize double cropping in the Amazon—this new stage aims to deepen the understanding of the relationship between deforestation, climate, and agriculture. Through this research, we will be able to provide a more comprehensive view of how forest destruction—including both deforestation and degradation—affects climate and agricultural productivity in the Brazilian Amazon, as well as how these impacts influence public subsidies through rural insurance systems and agricultural credit lines targeting the sector in the region.

METHODOLOGY

In this project, we will use two main databases: one containing historical climate data and another with information on deforestation and forest degradation in the Brazilian Amazon. We will analyze long-term climate trends associated with major climate phenomena and, through statistical analyses, identify patterns of rainfall reduction during these events and how they relate to forest loss and degradation.

RESULTS

Shortly.
